Academic Competitions

The Diocese of Sacramento hosts a series of academic competitions where students can challenge their minds, showcase their knowledge, and come together as a community to celebrate their faith and the joy of learning.

Diocesan Speech Contest

SJND participates in the Annual Diocesan Speech Contest. Each year our 7th and 8th grade students are asked to speak on a Catholic topic or theme that has relevance in our modern world. Two students are then chosen to represent our school at the diocesan level. Our students work very hard and do well, consistently placing in the top 5.

Religion Competition

SJND participates in the Annual Religion Competition.  Students from 5th and 6th grade participate in the event and they compete against 18 other Catholic schools throughout the diocese. The competition consists of an individual test, team activities, and a super quiz.

Mental Math Bowl

SJND participates in the Annual Mental Math Bowl.  Each year students in 1st - 5th grades are invited to try out for the team.  Two students from each grade are selected to represent our school at the diocesan competition each spring.  Competitors practice at lunch with the faculty advisors and at home to prepare.
